The Schooner Martha Foundation

The Schooner Martha Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that, owns and operates the historic schooner Martha.

Our sole purpose is to maintain and restore  Martha and to use Martha to operate sail training programs. Martha has been under the Foundation’s care since 1996. Martha takes both youths  and adults on sail training adventures in and around the San Juan Islands and Canadian waters.

Services Offered:

Pre-Purchase Condition & Valuation (C&V) Survey
Our most comprehensive survey and strongly recommended when purchasing a used or even a new vessel.  Overall condition and operation of the vessel will be examined including structural integrity, rig from deck level, interior, safety equipment, electronics, electrical, engines, machinery, tankage, cosmetic appearance, and overall maintenance.  An out-of water hull inspection plus brief sea trial are included.  Estimated Present Fair Market & Replacement Values are determined.  The inspection is conducted in accordance with ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council) Standards for Small Craft, NFPA (National Fire Prevention Association) Recommendations, and USCG CFR 33 (Rules and Regulations for Recreational Boats.)  This survey can also be used for insurance or financing.

Insurance C&V Survey
This is for clients who already own their vessel. It is performed so that an insurance company can determine whether or not the vessel is an acceptable risk. They are interested in structural integrity and safety for its intended use as well as the vessel’s fair market value. Most insurance companies require a survey every 3 to 5 years. ABYC, NFPA, and USCG CFR 33 are also referenced.

Appraisal Inspection
Performed to determine or justify the estimated fair market value of the vessel. A general inspection is done to ascertain the boat’s overall condition. This is normally needed for donations, legal cases, and estate settlements.

Damage Inspection
Normally requested by an insurance company when a claim is filed or a vessel is involved in an accident. Its purpose is to assess the extent of damage and verify/determine probable cause of it. Recommended repairs and review of submitted repair estimates are done.

Oversee your professional refit as Owner’s Rep

Identify or advise on problems, help prioritize refit, ongoing consultation as needed
