Attention Marine Trades businesses interested in our future workforce:
As most of you are aware, the NWMC has a program called Real World Readiness. This program serves youth furthest from opportunity which we define as, low income, homeless, disengaged with school, kids in foster care and / or adjudicated. It is a career prep program, giving participants exposure to and prep for entering the maritime industry.We are currently working on the deliverables of a grant we have received from the state called Career Connect Washington. One of the deliverables of this funding is to engage local maritime industry and professionals to come and talk with the youth.Our current cohort of 4 young people began on March 15th. The youth are on campus with us every Wednesday. Would you be able to come and talk with the youth about your profession and your business? This would be for about 20 minutes. The students would be prepared with questions to ask you and our staff are available to support you in providing an engaging presentation.Our program has two parts to it, a training session and an external internship. Once the youth have completed their 80 hour training session with us, they go onto an external internship with maritime professionals. This initial 20 minute presentation with the youth could also lead to internships with your business once the youth have completed their 80 hour session with us.Next steps:

- We will also be inviting you to an Internship Presentation in which we will be explaining the opportunity for your business to host a youth for an external internship. More on that in a separate email.
