Renewal time-brief letter from outgoing board member

Message from PTMTA Trustee Ashlyn Brown

Dear Marine Trades Community of Jefferson County,

Not being a good communicator in front of a group, I will write what I failed to articulate at our annual meeting on November 2nd.

As a PTMTA board volunteer for 7 years, my takeaway is that having an association for an industry means we are organized, not fragmented, and when it counts most, there is a ‘mouthpiece’ for our collective voice.

The PT Marine Trades Association as an entity, encourages decision makers and the non-maritime community to take the marine trades seriously and factor us into the equation as a force for good. Other sectors that are extremely well funded, well organized, and who lobby aggressively, potentially command and alter the priorities of our leaders away from our working waterfront and the PTMTA works to balance that dynamic.

The PTMTA is a singular contact point and a simplified “Brand” for our complex and diverse sector. Government and consultants will not take the time to connect with hundreds of small businesses but they will more likely connect with one representative association and we must constantly remind them to do so through advertising, public awareness, the maritime EIS, brochures, and advocacy.

What is most important is that this association exists and maintains itself as a ready tool in your tool box.
Being a member of the PTMTA is not an obligation. I hope you support it because you understand its importance.

Thank you for being an amazing force of creativity, skill, ingenuity and entrepreneurship. I am inspired and humbled by all of you.

Sincerely,

Ashlyn Brown
