Dear Forest Protectors in Jefferson and Callam Counties,
Please help our friends at the Northwest Watershed Institute support the proposal to expand the Dabob Bay Natural Area. We are asking everyone who cares about Dabob Bay and preservation of the remaining old forests and habitats on the Toandos Peninsula to attend the Department of Natural Resources Public Hearing on Monday evening June 17.
Hearing Information:
6:00 pm, Monday, June 17 (arrive early to sign in to speak)
Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road, Quilcene (near the south end of the Coyle Peninsula).
We need as many community members as possible to show up and give a short public comment in support of this project.
Talking points:
- I support the DNR’s proposed expansion of the Dabob Bay Natural Area.
- I request that the DNR include the “West Dabob” area that was in the original request from Jefferson County.
- Including this area will protect endangered marbled murrelet habitat and add forest connectivity to the existing Natural Area.
- Additional reasons to support forest protection at Dabob Bay include protecting water quality, shellfish, wildlife habitat, and rare forest types.
- Please include if you are a private landowner in the area!
This proposed Natural Area is one of the last remaining intact legacy forest ecosystems in Jefferson County, and we need to pack the room with supporters if we want to permanently protect it. We really need your help so we hope to see you Monday evening!
Thank you,
Nina Sarmiento
