The February 16th PT LEADER Insert Working Waterfront featured a photo on its cover that, while being an interesting project, (Sail Cargo in Costa Rica) it was totally out of place in this publication. Somebody FLUBBED…Big Time. Several of our Marine Trades members wrote to the Leader * and a response from our friend at the Leader, Josh Hamilton, included this intent to avoid such mistakes in the future.
“To avoid any sort of embarrassment like this in the future, I am personally putting together a guideline sheet for the production team as they develop future covers. It’s truly important to me that the maritime community feels represented & respected in these special publications. I am sorry that this happened & I will follow up with Donna regarding The Leader’s recent lack of attention to detail.”
*UPDATE from the Publisher; Donna Etchely: “I apologize sincerely, I will take full credit for not reading the following caption that went with the photo. One of my designers found the photo and I take responsibility for not doing my research.”
To be fair, it should be noted that our local paper is operating short handed. There is an article in the 2.16.22 Leader that explains it quite well. Any among our community who might enjoy practicing your skills at local journalism could contact PT Leader staff.
