On January 17th, the Port held a special meeting at the Chimacum Grange to hear the voices of stakeholders and the Ag community on the topic of the Port’s proposal to buy the Short’s family farm. It is important to understand this proposal and the very real challenges this farm and the Short’s family have faced. Comments presented at the meeting shed a great deal of light on the potential and the challenges.
What can the port do that the Shorts family could not?
Does the community around the farm support this proposal and how would they help to make it successful?
How do you, as a marine trades person, feel about the port expanding its role of economic support to the Ag community and do you see this acquisition as the best path towards that goal?
What happens to the farm if the Port does not purchase it?
The next Port Commission meeting where you can make public comment in person will be on January 25th at 5:30 PM, timed specifically to be more accessible to our working public.
