Working Waterfront STORY IDEAS and/or PHOTOS?

Do you like to write? Got an Idea for a Working Waterfront Story?

Telling the stories of our working waterfront in local publications is like insurance for our workforce. The marine trades and maritime businesses of Jefferson County, waterfront or in the woods, ARE IMPORTANT. Point Stop.

The parallel universe is that newcomers and tourism focus groups may not know this fact and so it is our job to remind them…along with building, repairing, designing, manufacturing, fishing, finishing, and the many many more jobs we all do everyday.

Currently, a supportive venue is the periodic insert, Working Waterfront published by the Port Townsend & Jefferson County Leader. Besides the benefits of having a local newspaper, the Leader has always been an invaluable archive of our local history. The Jefferson County Historical Society keeps a copy of every single issue ever published and makes them accessible for research projects like the recent book by Scott Wilson, Working Port.

The Port Townsend Leader under the management of Meredith Jordan has a small budget for freelance writers. They are also interested in more story ideas, trades business profiles, and water related news for their staff to pursue.
